Built during the American Civil War, Fort Point was due to be demolished for the building of the Golden Gate Bridge, but the bridge was redesigned to accommodate the fort. It is now a national monument. It can be seen in the movies 'Point Blank' and Hitchcock's 'Vertigo'.
