In 1861, a tenement building near Paisley Close, just off the High Street, suddenly and for no reason just collapsed. As the rescuers were pulling out dead bodies, from the rubble someone shouted "Heave awa', Ah'm no deid yet". Apparently the young man pulled from the remains lived to an old age, and this is a commemoration of the incident.
