This statue of Abrahan Lincoln in Old Calton Cemetery was built to honour the Scots-Americans who fought and died in the American Civil War.

St Cuthbert's Church

St Cuthbert's Church is sited in Princes Street Garden near Lothian Road. It is one of Edinburgh's oldest churches, though it has been heavily rebuilt over the centuries. Its site was originally on the banks of the Nor' Loch.

Book Fair

The inside and outside of the annual book fair held at St Andrew's & St George's Church on George Street. I bought five books.

John Knox's Manse

It is open to question if and for how long zealous Scottish preacher John Knox actually lived in this house on the High Street. However, it is one of the very few original buildings in the Old Town and at one time all the buildings on the Royal Mile were like this.

Governer's House

Governer's House on Calton Hill is the only remaining building of the old Calton Gaol, built in the early 1800s and demolished in the 1930s. The site is now occupied by government buildings, namely St Andrew House. The photo on the left was taken from Canongate Church and the one on the right from Old Calton Cemetery.

Huntly House

Huntly House in Canongate now houses the Museum of Edinburgh.

Old Tolbooth Wynd

Old Tolbooth Wynd runs under the Canongate Tolbooth, which now houses the Peoples' Museum of Edinburgh.

Jacob's Ladder

Jacob's Ladder is a set of steps cut into Calton Hill running from Regent Road down to Calton Road. As you can see, it's clearly not a ladder.

St Giles

David Roberts

This building in Stockbridge was built in 1605 and was the birthplace of David Roberts, a 19th century Scottish painter.

Christ's Church?

The Latin inscription above the Tron Church says its name should be Christ's Church (or Christchurch), but the weigh tron, or public weighing beam, was nearby and the name stuck.

Water of Leith

This is the Water of Leith between Dean Bridge and Stockbridge. Nice walk.
